Union groups protest FirstEnergy in Morgantown

Union workers from Local 102 and 304 are protesting FirstEnergy’s labor practices and proposed purchase of a power plant in Harrison County. An estimated 200 union workers were on hand for FirstEnergy’s annual shareholder meeting in Morgantown Tuesday.

Representatives of the Utility Workers Union of America say the number of employees has been on the decline for the past 17 years amid linemen and workers who restore service after accidents and storms.

Contracts between Locals 102 and 304 expired in April, but workers continue to report to their jobs under terms of the old contracts.

Environmental and consumer groups are also angry about FirstEnergy’s transfer of the Harrison County power plant to Mon Power; a plan that’s currently under consideration by the PSC.
