A Huntington man is heading to jail in connection with the death of another man last August following a brawl.
Shane McCaffrey was sentenced Tuesday morning to 12 months in the Western Regional Jail with credit for time served in the cinder block death of 49 year old Howard LeMaster.
Last August, police said McCaffrey and his brother got into what they called a drunken brawl at a home on Adams Avenue in Huntington. While attempting to break up the fight, longtime friend LeMaster was hit in the head with a concrete block thrown by McCaffrey.
Shortly after the incident, McCaffrey was arrested and charged with malicious wounding. That charge was increased to murder when LeMaster died
Back in January, a Cabell County Grand Jury reduced the murder charge to voluntary manslaughter.
Last week, McCaffrey pleaded guilty to involuntary manslaughter in the case. He was sentenced on that charge.
