How the Mountaineers can advance

OKLAHOMA CITY, Okla. Here is the two-part scenario necessary for West Virginia to win its pool Saturday and advance to the Big 12 Tournament championship game on Sunday:

♦ WVU must defeat Oklahoma State on Saturday at 5 p.m.

♦ TCU defeat Kansas in Saturday’s late game, scheduled to begin 30 minutes after the conclusion of WVU-Oklahoma State.

Kansas advances to the championship game with a win over TCU. The Horned Frogs must beat the Jayhawks and have WVU lose to Oklahoma State.

In the opposite pool, the winner of Saturday’s Kansas State-Oklahoma game will advance. Both of those teams are viewed as locks to make an NCAA regional, along with Oklahoma State. West Virginia, however, almost certainly needs to win the Big 12 tournament in order to qualify via the automatic bid.
