Webster County High School basketball standout Brett Morris announced earlier this month he would be walking on at WVU. The Class AA all-state first-team captain was a guest on Tuesday’s MetroNews Statewide “Sportsline” to discuss the preferred walk-on opportunity he accepted with the Mountaineers over other Division II offers.
“Just the chance to play at WVU” (was the main reason), Morris said. “Growing up in West Virginia, it’s a big deal.
“Coming in as a walk-on, you know you have to work hard. You have to be in the gym, in the weight room and you have to be hustling to get a chance to get on the court.”
Morris averaged 25.9 points, 9.4 rebounds and 4.8 assists during his senior season with Webster County. He’ll have one more opportunity to play at the high school level in the North-South All-Star Basketball Classic coming up June 14 from Charleston.
