New Jersey woman charged with helping man escape Morgantown prison

WHEELING, W.Va. — A New Jersey woman is facing federal charges in North Central West Virginia after allegedly helping a convicted drug dealer escape from the Federal Correctional Institute in Morgantown.

Jamie Angel Clayton, 39, from Edgewater, N.J., was indicted and arrested this week.

She could be sentenced to up to five years in prison and be forced to pay a $250,000 fine if she is convicted of playing a role in the escape of Eugene Cobbs, 42, from Los Angeles.

Cobbs, who is still on the run, was serving a 12-year prison sentence for distributing more than five kilograms of cocaine when he walked away from the prison facility in April.

Federal investigators said that in 2004 he crashed the plane that had an estimated $24 million worth of cocaine on board near the Wheeling-Ohio County Airport.

Cobbs was arrested four years later in Guadalajara, Mexico.
