Nicholas County teen charged with killing father

NETTIE, W.Va. — A Nicholas County teenager who recently graduated from Richwood High School is in jail charged with allegedly murdering his father.

The Nicholas County Sheriff’s Department said Tuesday Trevor Bateman, 18, is in the Central Regional Jail without bail following the June 8 beating of Brian Hartley, 37.

The two, who lived together on Talbert Road in Nettie, got into a fight on June 7 according to a release from the sheriff’s department.

“During the altercation Brian Hartley was severely beaten by Trevor Bateman,” the release said.

Hartley’s body was found in the home on June 8.

Bateman was taken before a Nicholas County magistrate Monday evening for an initial appearance and sent to the Central Regional Jail in Flatwoods.
