Bradshaw inks 1-year deal with Colts

INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. — Former Marshall running back Ahmad Bradshaw was prepared to join his new teammates in Indianapolis on Wednesday, the day after signing a one-year deal with the Colts.

Details of the contract were not released but ESPN NFL Insider Adam Schefter reported the deal pays a $250,000 signing bonus and a $1.1 million salary.

Ahmad Bradshaw gained more than 4,000 all-purpose yards during his days with The Herd.

Since leaving Marshall following the 2006 season, Bradshaw spent seven years with the New York Giants where he won a pair of Super Bowl rings. However, the 27-year-old Bradshaw was part of several moves made by the Giants in the offseason to clear cap space.

Bradshaw rushed for 1,015 yards on 221 carries last season but battled a right foot injury that forced him out of four games. Bradshaw has been focused on rehabbing those injuries that bothered him throughout the 2012 campaign.

“I’m taking it slow right now,” Bradshaw told ESPN.com. “I’m definitely going to continue my rehab. My focus is just to learn the offense and to get healthy and to be prepared for training camp and the beginning of the season.”

Bradshaw will have to battle for playing time in Indianapolis. The Colts now have nine running backs on the roster. The former Herd standout will likely battle Vick Ballard for carries.  Ballard led the Colts in rushing last season as a rookie. Donald Brown and Delone Carter are also expected to be in the mix.

In seven seasons with the Giants, Bradshaw collected 4,232 yards rushing and 32 touchdowns.

While at Marshall, Bradshaw became the 10th player in school history to gain over 4,000 all-purpose yards (4,026) in a career and the eighth player to gain over 1,000 yards rushing (1,523 in 2006) in a season.
