AG Morrisey wants answers from abortion clinics

CHARLESTON, W.Va. — West Virginia Attorney General Patrick Morrisey wants to find out how abortion-providing clinics in West Virginia are regulated. The first-term AG sent letters to a pair of clinics Monday.

Recent events raise significant questions about how abortion clinics are regulated in the Mountain State,” Morrisey said in a prepared released.

He cited a lawsuit filed last week by the Family Policy Council of West Virginia against the Women’s Health Center in Charleston and a doctor there. The lawsuit alleges medical malpractice.

“Regardless of one’s position on abortion, the State needs to evaluate the fact it does not regulate or license clinics,” Morrisey tweeted Monday.

He said the state regulates professions from doctors to cosmetologists but not abortion clinics.

Morrisey’s letters ask a series of questions of the clinics concerning their regulations and the elective abortion procedures. He wants answers by July 1.

We look forward to the clinics’ cooperation and assistance in this important endeavor,” Morrisey said.
