One injured in Charleston shooting

CHARLESTON, W. Va.– Charleston Police have identified one suspect in Monday afternoons Charleston shooting and are looking for up to four others.

The shooting took place around 2 p.m. on Clendenin Street outside the entrance of the Charleston Town Center Mall.

Police have issued an arrest warrant for Shaquille Burton in connection with the shooting of Terrance Bonner, 18, of Charleston.

Bonner was driving his car with three other passengers down Clendenin Street when shots rang out.

“I believe he stop to let the two girls out of the back and while he was stopped he was approached by the suspects and the shots were fired directly into the driver’s window and door,” said Chief of Detectives Lt. Steve Cooper.

After the shots were fired, police said the suspects then fled the scene on foot.

A passenger in the car drove Bonner to St. Francis Hospital where he was treated and released. He suffered a gunshot wound to the arm.

At this time, police say it is unclear what type of weapon was used in the shooting but Cooper said a number of shots were fired.

“I believe we found a total of five bullet holes in the door and in the panel and of course the window was also shot out,” he said.

No other injuries were reported in the incident.

Cooper adds that at this stage in the investigation, it appears the shooting was not random. A motive in the incident was not known.

Burton is considered armed and dangerous. Anyone with information is asked to call the police.
