West Virginia State University gains more property

INSTITUTE, W. Va.– West Virginia State University has more room to grow.

The West Virginia Department of Administration Monday transferred the former West Virginia Rehabilitation Center property in Institute to WVSU.

The nearly 20 acres of property adjacent to WVSU contains 15 buildings and more than 430,000 square-feet of space.

WVSU is currently working on a comprehensive plan for the property. Initial efforts will focus on renovating and opening the former administration building at the complex, known as the F. Ray Power building.

The center previously provided on-site vocational and rehabilitation services to individuals with disabilities.

Since March 2011, the property has been primarily unused.
