West Virginia unemployment rate declines

 

CHARLESTON, W. Va.– The unemployment rate in West Virginia continues to decline.

According to WorkForce West Virginia, the state’s seasonally adjusted unemployment rate declined four-tenths of a percentage point in May to 6.2 percent.

The number of West Virginians without a job fell 3,300 to 50,200.

The biggest employment gains were seen in the service-providing sector with 1,300 in leisure and hospitality. In the goods-producing sector, manufacturing employment had the highest gains at 500.

The highest employment declines were seen in trade, transportation and utilities with 600 followed by 400 in government.

The national unemployment rate increased one-tenth of
a percentage point to 7.6 percent.
