Father leaves hospital, arrested in stepdaughter’s murder

CHARLESTON, W.Va. — A Kanawha County man accused of murdering his stepdaughter last month was arrested Thursday after being released from CAMC General Hospital.

Roy Roger Pittman, 69, was taken to South Central Regional Jail. Pittman has been charged with first-degree murder, attempted murder and malicious wounding.

He allegedly killed his 15-year-old adopted stepdaughter with a shotgun blast to the chest and shot his 18-year-old adopted stepson in the upper leg on May 24 at a home on Keystone Drive.

Following the shootings, deputies said Pittman turned the gun on himself in an attempted suicide, suffering serious facial injuries. He wore a metal faceplate during Thursday’s appearance in magistrate court.
