CHARLESTON, W.Va. — A large crowd turned out Friday afternoon at the Robert C. Byrd Federal Courthouse in Charleston for the ceremonial swearing-in of new federal Magistrate Judge Dwane Tinsley.
The longtime Charleston attorney began his work on the bench back in April when he replaced the retired Magistrate Judge Mary Stanley.
U.S. District Judge Irene Berger swore Tinsley in following a robing ceremony.
U.S. Attorney Booth Goodwin had high praise for Tinsley Friday.
“I’ve had the very good fortune of squaring off against Mr. Tinsley and now I’m very happy and humbled to welcome him to the bench,” Goodwin said.
Tinsley, a native of Fayetteville, has served in a number of roles over the years including as an assistant county prosecutor and assistant U.S. attorney.
“It was a wonderful ceremony, really fitting of the kind of person, the kind of lawyer he’s been and the kind of jurist he will be,” Goodwin said.
More than 400 people attended Friday’s swearing-in and reception.
