One big parade

CHARLESTON, W.Va. –Approximately 2,000 people from across West Virginia took part Saturday in the 150th Birthday Parade down Kanawha Boulevard in Charleston.

All 55 counties were represented. MetroNews reporter Jennifer Smith, who was along the parade route, said some contingents were larger than others but all seemed to be having a good time.

“You couldn’t ask for a more beautiful day for a parade,” Smith said. “This is a celebration of the past, present and future of West Virginia.”

The parade had its share of floats, bands and statewide officeholders.

The state is wrapping up its birthday celebration Saturday on the grounds of the state capitol with music, food, drama and general fun. A third showing of the capitol-projected West Virginia 150 in 3D and a third straight night of fireworks will bring the celebration to a close.
