Man struck and killed by train in Putnam County

Tyler Kincaid

WINFIELD, W.Va. — A Putnam County man died early Sunday morning after being hit by a CSX train as he walked on the railroad tracks in Scott Depot.

Sheriff’s deputies identified the victim as Tyler Kincaid, 20, of Winfield. The accident happened at around 3 a.m. Sunday near the Hedrick Road crossing.

The train’s conductor told police he saw Kincaid and tried to warn him. He also said he tried to slow down the train.

Kincaid just finished his freshman year at West Virginia State University and was on the baseball team’s roster this past season as an infielder. Before that he played baseball at Winfield High School where his friends gathered Sunday evening for prayer.
