Fayette County man charged with killing former girlfriend

OAK HILL, W.Va. — A Fayette County man is behind bars after allegedly killing a woman he had dated at different times.

State Police say William Cody, 63, of Fayetteville was charged with first degree murder for the death of Santanea Byers, 24, of Scarbro.  A family member of Byers reported her missing on June 17th and said she was last seen with Cody.

Earlier this week, State Police said Cody admitted to killing Byers during a voluntary interview with State Police in Oak Hill.

Troopers said Cody told them where to find Byers’ body.  It was located in an outbuilding in Oak Hill and sent to the state Medical Examiner’s Office in Charleston for an autopsy.
