Webster County officials want high tech companies to think about Cowen

WEBSTER SPRINGS, W.Va. — High tech business owners looking for a place to locate in West Virginia can now see a possibility at the Webster County Business Park without hitting the road.

Webster County Economic Development Director Geary Weir said a 360 degree virtual tour of the Webster County Business Park and the Robert C. Byrd Information Technology Center was recently launched at www.webstercountybusinesspark.com.

“We’ve got high speed fiber in the county,” said Weir.  “Even though we don’t have four lane highways and an airport here, this high speed fiber can connect us to the world so, with that, companies can do a lot.”

IBM had previously used the Robert C. Byrd Information Technology Center in Cowen as a document scanning and conversion center.

It is a 17,200 square foot facility which includes a geothermal heating and cooling system, a backup generator, a data center with a dry fire suppression system and a data vault.

“Webster County is not a place where people would think to look for a technology building and we have, what we think is, a pretty special building there with a lot of bells and whistles,” said Weir.

In addition, he said there is a workforce trained in document conversion in Cowen and surrounding areas.
