Body of drowning victim identified

SHANNONDALE, W.Va. — The search for a missing Winchester, Va. man ended Friday afternoon in Jefferson County.

The body of the man, identified as Josue Zuniga-Menendez, 30, of Frederick County, Va., was pulled from the Shenandoah River near the spot at the Shenandoah Springs Wildlife Management Area where he was last seen going into the water on July 4.

He had been there with friends and family members for the holiday.

Jefferson County officials said the water is muddy and dark in that area with rocks and trees that complicated the search efforts that first started on Thursday night.

Emergency officials from surrounding counties and neighboring states were part of the response.
