CLARKSBURG, W.Va.— An interim police chief was named in Clarksburg on Tuesday morning, less than 24 hours after Marshall Goff resigned.
Clarksburg City Manager Martin Howe announced Lt. Robbie Hilliard will replace Goff, who stepped down Monday from the role he held since 2007.
“With the recent retirement and resignation of Chief Goff, I have been tasked with putting in an interim chief to move the city forward in the direction that we see fit,” said Howe.
Goff’s resignation came amid questions whether proper procedures were followed in April when Clarksburg Councilman Sam “Zeke” Lopez was accused of domestic battery involving his wife.
Lopez was arrested July 3.
Bill Ihlenfeld, the U.S. Attorney for West Virginia’s Northern District, was scheduled to discuss an investigation involving the police department at 1 p.m. Tuesday.
On Tuesday morning, Howe said he did not know what the U.S. Attorney would be addressing: “I was not made aware of a press conference by the U.S. Attorney’s Office to my office.”
Goff had worked with the Clarksburg Police Department for more than 20 years.
