CONSOL dedicates new water treatment facility

MANNINGTON, W.Va. — CONSOL Energy’s Northern West Virginia Water Treatment Plant is now up and running in Marion County.

On Thursday afternoon, Governor Earl Ray Tomblin helped CONSOL officials dedicate the new facility in Mannington.

It will treat mine wastewater from the Blacksville No. 2 Mine, the Loveridge Mine and the Robinson Run Mine.

“The water that comes out now will be clean enough to raise trout in,” Tomblin told MetroNews Affiliate WAJR-AM on Thursday.  He said the site goes beyond the requirements of the federal Environmental Protection Agency.

“It’s a great example, not only for West Virginia, but for the whole country that does mining, to look and say this is one way you can really help to clean up our environment.”

The facility utilizes technology that was only developed in recent years.

“By working together, that’s how that change comes about and it doesn’t happen overnight,” said Tomblin.
