Neese remains returned

STAR CITY, W.Va. — More than a year after a Star City teen disappeared, her remains have been returned to West Virginia.

Skylar Neese vanished on July 6, 2012, when she sneaked out of her parents’ home. Authorities eventually found the 16-year old had been killed and her body dumped in Greene County, Pa.

Skylar Neese’s remains have been returned to West Virginia.

“Myself and Mary and her sister got to spend a few minutes with Skylar—actually as much time as we wanted—about a week ago,” said Skylar’s father, Dave Neese.

Even though Skylar’s remains have been returned, her family is still waiting to lay her to rest.

The Greene County Coroner’s Office has yet to issue a death certificate. Until Coroner Gregory Rohanna signs it, the family cannot proceed with any funeral arrangements. Neese said he’s been promised the death certificate will be issued early next week.

“It’s all up to to him now. He has to sign the death certificate so we can move ahead with the arrangements,” said Neese.

Neese said the family is planning a public memorial service for Skylar. The family has been waiting for more than six months for a sense of closure.

Skylar’s remains were discovered Jan. 16 in Greene County, Pa.

Two teens have been charged with her murder. Rachel Shoaf, 16, has pleaded guilty to second-degree murder and is awaiting sentencing. A second teen charged in the case was classified as a juvenile.
