Two jailed in Princeton shooting death

PRINCETON, W.Va. — A woman is dead and a man is wounded after a shooting near Princeton Monday morning. Police have charged another man and woman in the crime.

The Mercer County Sheriff’s Department said the fatal shooting took place at an apartment on Thornton Avenue, in the Lilly Grove area of Princeton around 5:20 a.m.

The victim has been identified as Sherry Matthews, 44, of Princeton. She was shot and killed. Police said 41-year-old Edward Lee Thomas, who also lived there, was shot in the neck. 

Police have arrested and charged Steven McDonald, 32, of Bluefield, and 23-year-old Latasha Kanode of Princeton with murder, robbery, burglary and attempted murder.

They are both in jail.
