Alpha Natural Resources subsidiary idling mine

GREENE COUNTY, Pa. — A subsidiary of Alpha Natural Resources is temporarily suspending production at its mine in Greene County, Pa.

Cumberland Coal Resources LP announced Monday it will idle operations at it’s Cumberland underground longwall mine due to adverse geological conditions in the mine’s headgate area.

The mine will remain idle and cease all coal shipments till mine workers are able to alleviate the conditions that halted the operations. Mine officials expect that it will be at least several weeks before production resumes.

Until production fully resumes, the mine will maintain a reduced workforce of employees who are key to bringing the longwall back into production.
