Large party broken up by police in Fayette County

CUNARD, W.Va. — A large party in Fayette County had to be broken up by deputies Sunday after the crowd became unruly.

Fayette 911 received a call around midnight Sunday of a large, unruly party that gathered in an open field near the Cunard area after word was spread through social media, according to the Fayette County Sheriff’s Department.

Six sheriff’s deputies responded to the call and once they arrived on scene, they found more than 300 people in the area.

A DJ was set up with an elaborate sound system, and there was a large quantity of alcohol at the scene. Police said several people ran into the woods once officers arrived.

Officers cited several people at the party for various misdemeanor offenses, including alcohol and controlled substances violations. Three vehicles were also towed from the scene.

The crowd consisted of people who traveled from throughout Southern West Virginia along with many from other states including Texas and Virginia.
