State unemployment rate continues to fall

The West Virginia unemployment rate has decreased slightly in June.

According to WorkForce West Virginia, the state’s seasonally adjusted unemployment rate declined one-tenth of a percentage point to 6.1 percent.

The number of state residents without a job is now at 48,400, down 1,700.

Total non-farm payroll employment fell 5,000, with a loss of 800 in the goods-producing sector and a loss of 4,200 in the service-providing sector.

Within the goods-producing sector, the most jobs were lost in construction with 1,100 while manufacturing employment increased 500. In the service-providing sector, highest job gains came in professional and business services with 900 while the biggest job loss
was 2,500 in government. Employment in the
information sector was unchanged.

The national unemployment rate remained at 7.6 percent.
