Watch: Joseph vows better secondary

DALLAS, Texas — Karl Joseph’s freshman season was promising individually, but a disaster from a unit standpoint as West Virginia’s defense ranked among the bottom 10 nationally in scoring and pass defense.

“You probably can’t get any worse than our defense last year,” said Joseph, who nonetheless provided some highlight moments at free safety. His 104 tackles led the team outright and his two interceptions tied for the lead.

Joseph said he and strong safety Darwin Cook will be “more in tune with each other” this season, and the sophomore vows the frequently torched cornerbacks “are ready to step up and make plays.”
