CHARLESTON, W.Va. — Those who possess a conceal carry permit in West Virginia can now legally carry their firearm in the state of Idaho.
State Attorney General Patrick Morrisey announced Friday Idaho is the 25th state to enter a reciprocity agreement with West Virginia for a state issued handgun license.
“I am pleased to announce the full reciprocity agreement with the State of Idaho,” Attorney General Morrisey said in a press release about the agreement. “The Second Amendment ensures that citizens have the right to keep and bear arms. Under my tenure as Attorney General, we will continue to protect the Second Amendment rights of West Virginians both in the State of West Virginia and as they travel across the United States.”
Morrisey added his office is also working to add more states to reciprocity agreements in the months ahead. The agreements enable West Virginia CC Permit holders to travel there without consequence for carrying a weapon.
The following states now have reciprocity agreements with West Virginia: Alaska, Arizona, Arkansas, Delaware, Florida, Idaho, Kansas, Kentucky, Louisiana, Michigan, Mississippi, Missouri, New Mexico, North Carolina, North Dakota, Ohio, Oklahoma, Pennsylvania, South Carolina, South Dakota, Tennessee, Texas, Utah, Virginia, and Wyoming.
Seven more states recognize the West Virginia permits; Indiana, Iowa, Montana, Nebraska, Nevada, Vermont, and Wisconsin. The state of Wisconsin recognizes those permits issued after June 8, 2012. West Virginia, so far, does not recognize permits from those states, but negotiations are in the works for full reciprocity.
“Our office currently is working to secure additional recognition of West Virginia Concealed Handgun Licenses with several other states,” Morrisey said. “We look forward to having similar announcements in the near future.”
