Pittsburgh doctor’s extradition hearing set for Monday

BECKLEY, W.Va. —A Pittsburgh medical researcher will be staying in the Southern Regional Jail in West Virginia at least through the weekend.

Dr. Robert Ferrante

Dr. Robert Ferrante is charged in connection with the poisoning death of his wife Dr. Autumn Klein. He was arrested by State Police Thursday night on the West Virginia Turnpike near the Ghent toll plaza. It’s been reported that he was heading home to possibly turn himself in. He had been staying with a relative in Florida.

An extradition hearing has been scheduled for Monday at 2:30 p.m. in front of Raleigh County Circuit Judge H.L. Kirkpatrick. If Ferrante waives extradition he’ll be taken back to Pittsburgh to face the charges. If he fights extradition his return could take several weeks.

Police believe Ferrante laced his wife’s energy supplement drink with cyanide. Investigators say Ferrante misled his wife into thinking the supplement could help them conceive a child.
