Barboursville wins state Little League crown

SOUTH CHARLESTON, W.Va. — Barboursville used clutch two-out hitting Saturday morning to defeat Martinsburg 21-8 for the Little League state tournament championship sending the 11-12-year-old all stars to Georgia for Little League’s Southeast Regional.

This week’s tournament was played at Little Creek Park in South Charleston.

Barboursville enjoyed big two-out innings in the 2nd, 4th and 5th frames including two-out grand slams in two of the innings.

Brody Aliff broke the game open with a bomb over the left field fence in the 4th and Jayce Gould cleared the bases with a centerfield shot in the 5th.

Martinsburg got a home run in the first evening off the bat of Mikey Jackson but could score no more than two runs in any one inning the rest of the way.

Barboursville will now travel to Warner Robins, Ga., for the Southeast Regional beginning Thurs., August 1.
