SUMMERSVILLE, W.Va. — A national movement aimed at removing President Obama from office is underway. This weekend and next week across America demonstrations termed “Overpasses for Impeachment” are set. Throughout the nation along interstate and highway overpasses and bridges people will stage protests calling for the president’s impeachment by Congress.
“Since we have no overpasses in Nicholas County we’ve decided to use a flat piece of ground at the intersection of Route 19 and 39,” said one of the organizers of the Summersville protest Tim Clifford.
Other demonstrations are planned around West Virginia. Charleston, Beckley, Parkersburg, and other cities will have similar protests. The aim is to get the attention of Congress to begin impeachment proceedings. Clifford believes the louder the voice the more they’ll be noticed.
“We’re letting our elected officials know how we feel. With rallies like this we hope it may jog them into doing something,” Clifford said. “The things that have been happening in Washington, it’s surprised me they haven’t’ already done it.”
Clifford said his organization staged a similar rally last week along U.S. Route 19 and received a lot of response, much of it from out of state travelers.
“We had people from Kentucky, Pennsylvania, Georgia, North Carolina, it was amazing,” he said. “We were shocked about the response we got.”
The groups are organized loosely through social media and say they are growing in numbers.
