Monongalia County man accused of drugging his wife enters guilty plea

MORGANTOWN, W.Va. — A Monongalia County husband has plead guilty in a case in which he was accused of drugging his wife.

William Francis Poling Jr., 42, of Dellslow, pleaded guilty Friday to misdemeanor battery as part of a plea deal in Monongalia County Magistrate Court.

State Police said Mr. Poling allegedly crushed a tablet of the sedative Ambien and put it in wife’s drink, which she later drank without knowing the contents. Once she was asleep, that’s when Mr. Poling took his wife phone and tried to check her phone calls, messages and emails, police said.

Mr. Poling’s wife was Barbour Prosecutor Leckta Poling.

As part of Friday’s plea deal, Mr. Poling was fined $500 and also agreed to pay $2,000 in restitution for medical bills and other costs to his estranged wife.

Ms. Poling’s lawyer indicated that she was in agreement with the plea deal at the hearing.
