MORGANTOWN, W.Va. — It simply wouldn’t be preseason camp without a shock-the-world reference, so thanks to KJ Myers for delivering the perfunctory line Tuesday.
Then again, West Virginia’s receivers might actually do something shock-worthy if the starters put up numbers anywhere close to what Tavon Austin and Stedman Bailey accomplished. It’s more likely that a two-deep committee of pass-catchers will emerge from the 17—yes, 17—receivers taking reps currently.
Myers, a third-year sophomore, caught a 3-yard touchdown against Marshall in the 2012 season opener before making his only other catch in Week 2 against James Madison. He’s a 6-foot-2, 200-pounder who said his personal goal this fall is “to make plays, catch everything thrown my way and win a championship.”
Blissfully aware WVU was picked eighth in the Big 12, Myers said there are “a lot of people sleeping on us and sleeping on our offense because we lost those big-name players.
“But every team loses players, and there’s players behind them that need to step up—which we’re going to do. We’re going to shock the world, we’re going to shock the nation, and I love the glory of it.”
Good job, KJ. Let the shocking begin …
