13 TV games on hoops schedule

West Virginia coach Bob Huggins argues a foul call during Saturday’s 73-57 loss to No. 14 Oklahoma State last season.

MORGANTOWN, W.Va. — West Virginia’s men’s basketball team is scheduled to appear on national television 13 times during the upcoming season, according to the 2013-14 schedule released Thursday by the school.

And thanks to the Big 12 schedulers, WVU will save a cross-country flight by playing a two-game Saturday-Monday swing through TCU and Texas Tech on Jan. 4 and Jan. 6. Mountaineers coach Bob Huggins has lobbied for such a two-for-one trip, which will take place before WVU’s spring semester begins.

The Mountaineers will play 16 regular-season games at home, including nine games against Big 12 teams in the round-robin format. The nonconference opponents include Gonzaga, Purdue and Duquesne—all three of whom defeated WVU last season.

Georgia Southern and Presbyterian also will come to the WVU Coliseum, as part of the Cancun Challenge that will be completed in Mexico. The Mountaineers are predetermined to face Old Dominion at Playa del Carmen, followed by either Wisconsin or Saint Louis.

WVU will play non-conference road games at Virginia Tech and Missouri in the Big 12/SEC Challenge.

The Mountaineers also will play two games in Charleston during December, against Marshall and William & Mary.

West Virginia’s only scheduled exhibition is against Fairmont State on Nov. 4.
