New DMV opens in Summersville

SUMMERSVILLE, W.Va. — The state Division of Motor Vehicles (DMV) officially has a regional office in Summersville.

Governor Earl Ray Tomblin along with state Department of Transportation Cabinet Secretary Paul Mattox, DMV Commissioner Joe Miller, Summersville Mayor Robert Shafer and area legislators took part in a ribbon cutting ceremony Monday to officially open the new office.

The $2.8 million 9,000 square foot office, located at 2 Armory Way in Summersville, is the 24th DMV regional location in the state. Construction on the facility began last year.

Thirteen DMV employees will provide services to area residents during the operating hours of 8:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Friday.

In a statement Monday, Governor Tomblin said this facility fulfills a promise made 16 years ago.

“I’m pleased to say the people of Nicholas County will no longer have to travel to Flatwoods or Beckley to reach a DMV office,” said Tomblin. “The Summersville DMV is open, offering quality customer service.”

The new facility is part of a state plan that was developed in the late 1990’s to provide every citizen reasonable access, no more than 25 miles, to a DMV regional office.
