PARKERSBURG, W.Va. — Parkersburg school officials announced on Monday evening that $150,000 had been raised within the past week to go toward the renovations at Stadium Field as the deadline nears for the season to begin.
A group of businessmen were able to raise those funds, although another $200,000 is now needed within the next three weeks to complete the renovation project. The goal is to have Stadium Field fully ready to go in time for Parkersburg’s September 20th home contest against Capital.
“If we do not come together and make this happen, football revenues this year will be gone. Without the gate money from football, all sports at PHS will suffer,” said Parkersburg athletic director Lori Lowers. “Revenues from these home games cover travel, uniforms, officials, equipment, and facility upgrades for all sports. It is crucial for our athletes and PHS supporters everywhere that we get Stadium Field open as quickly as possible.”
Late last month, officials said it was doubtful that any home games would be played at Stadium Field this season for the Big Reds.
