Inmate swap at regional jail results in escape

A pair of inmates at the North Central Regional Jail in Doddridge County switched identification bracelets Tuesday and now one of them is on the loose.

Bruce Clayton
Kevin Gregory

The Marion County Sheriff’s Dept. said Kevin Gregory and Bruce Clayton made the switch because Clayton was scheduled for a court appearance in Marion County Tuesday where he was expected to be released on home confinement.

That’s exactly what happened at the Marion County Courthouse. Clayton, who was really Gregory, was ordered to check-in at the Daily Reports Center and when he failed to do so authorities got suspicious.

Gregory was in jail for failing to register as a sexual offender. He’s originally from Virginia but deputies believes he’s somewhere in Marion County.

An investigation is underway at the regional jail.
