CHARLESTON, W.Va. — MVB Bank is officially coming to Charleston.
A groundbreaking ceremony was held Wednesday at the site of where the banks first branch will be built in the Kanawha Valley.
“This will be a full service facility here in downtown Charleston,” said MVB Bank Chief Marketing Officer Aly Goodwin Gregg. “It is an investment within the city and it’s our first location this far down I-79.”
The four story facility will be built on property located at the corner of Washington Street East and Margaret Street, the former site of a BB&T operated drive-through bank. It will feature over 18,000 square feet of Class A office space.
Gregg said they are excited about the new home.
“Charleston is where we need to be,” she said. “It’s the capitol city and it gives us an opportunity to serve this lucrative market within West Virginia and expand our footprint here.”
MVB plans to occupy the first two floors and then lease the top two floors. Charleston City Councilwoman At-Large Mary Jean Davis said the city is also excited about the new edition.
“It will bring more business to the city so economically it’s a great move for the City of Charleston,” she said.
MVB Bank purchased the property from BB&T last December. Construction crews will begin to tear down the old structure this week.
“We are looking at topping off, putting in that last beam probably end of this year, December and then we’ll probably be in the facility end of 2014,” said Gregg.
MVB Bank currently has branches located in the north central part of the state as well as in the Eastern Panhandle. The Charleston facility will be the first south of the Clarksburg/Bridgeport area on I-79.
The new MVB Bank branch will be an investment of over $6 million.
