Martinsburg man charged with killing wife

MARTINSBURG, W.Va. — A Berkeley County man is charged with murder after allegedly beating his wife to death with a hammer earlier this week.

Rickie Greenfield, Jr., 29, is being held in the Eastern Regional Jail for the murder of his wife.

Martinsburg Police said Rickie Greenfield, Jr., 29, of Martinsburg, turned himself in to authorities late Wednesday night shortly after the body of his wife, Jill, was found at her home on Route 9 near Martinsburg.

Investigators said the woman died from a head injury.

Reports indicated Greenfield, Jr. drove around after the murder with his two children but later dropped the kids off in a different area.

On Thursday evening, he was being held in the Eastern Regional Jail on a first degree murder charge.

Officers with State Police, the Berkeley County Sheriff’s Department and the Martinsburg Police Department were part of Greenfield’s arrest.
