CHARLESTON, W.Va. — Doc Holliday talks about “team first” nearly every time he addresses the media after practice. Thursday night he took the philosophy one step further when he announced to a large crowd at the annual “Paint The Capital Green” event that the only names that will appear on Marshall’s jerseys will be on the front.
“I haven’t even told the team at this point, but I’m going to tell you guys here tonight: There won’t be [any] names on those jerseys this year,” Holliday told the kelly green clad crowd. “There will be one name on the jersey, it’ll be ‘The Herd’ on the front.”
Marshall players have certainly bought into what Holliday is preaching. Players have emphasized all preseason how the team has come together and grown since last year’s 5-7 campaign.
“I think that speaks volumes, because in the past three years I haven’t had 28 leaders on this football team I felt I could bring here,” Holliday told the kelly green-clad crowd.
Marshall opens the season Aug. 31 at Joan C. Edwards Stadium against Miami (Ohio).
