No name change for WesBanco Arena

WHEELING, W.Va. — WesBanco Arena in Wheeling will keep its name.  Officials with the banking company have signed a ten year deal worth $2.5 million to continue the naming rights.

Large scale renovations and repairs are in the works for the facility that has been located in Downtown Wheeling since 1977.  A half-percent sales tax that will take effect in Wheeling in October will help pay for $4 million worth of work.

Before WesBanco’s first naming rights agreement in 2003, the site was known as the Wheeling Civic Center.

WesBanco Arena is the home of the Wheeling Nailers, a member of the ECHL AA hockey league.
