CLARKSBURG, W.Va. — Two men are in jail charged with sexually assaulting a Taylor County teenager who was named in a Silver Alert earlier this week.
State Police First Sgt. Mike Baylous said troopers in Harrison County arrested Lewis Dailey, 22, of Ratliff, Ky., and Jamie Doddrill, 37, of Fairmont, Wednesday on various counts. It’s alleged the pair kidnapped and sexually assaulted and abused Shawna Ann Way, 14, who disappeared Sunday from her Taylor County home.
Dailey is in the North Central Regional Jail on $2,000,000 bail.
Baylous said Dailey had a social media relationship with the girl.
“A relationship that was started through texting and Facebook and eventually she was lured out of the residence,” Baylous said.
Troopers said Dailey knew how old Way was and still came to meet her in the parking lot of a Taylor County business Sunday. She was then taken to a house in Fairmont where the crimes allegedly occurred.
Way, who is mentally challenged, showed up at police headquarters in Clarksburg Tuesday. The Silver Alert was then canceled.
First Sgt. Baylous said the incident is a solemn reminder of what can happen to children through social media.
“They didn’t have good intentions that’s for sure,” Baylous said. “They took advantage of this girl because of her mental capacity and unfortunately she’s going to be emotionally and physically scarred from this incident.”
Dailey is charged with kidnapping, trafficking a minor, second-degree sexual abuse, third-degree sexual abuse and conspiracy.
Doddrill faces charges of kidnapping, second-degree sexual assault and conspiracy.
