Missing Taylor County teen found

TAYLOR COUNTY, W.Va. — A 14-year-old girl who had went missing over the weekend in Taylor County has been found.

West Virginia State Police canceled the Silver Alert for Shawna Ann Way Tuesday after she turned herself into law enforcement in the afternoon.

Way, who is mentally challenged, had last been seen on Sunday near the Briarview Apartments.

Since that time, the Federal Bureau of Investigation, the West Virginia State Police, the West Virginia State Police Bureau of Criminal Investigations, the West Virginia State Police Crimes Against Children Unit, the Taylor County Sheriff’s Department , the Harrison County Sheriff’s Department, the Grafton City Police Department, and numerous other surrounding state, county, and local law enforcement agencies had been actively working  together to locate her.

At this time, not many details surrounding her disappearance have been released, but more information is expected to be released as it becomes available.

Police do believe that social media played a role in her disappearance.
