MORGANTOWN, W.Va. — The Oklahoma-bound Mountaineers haven’t been three-touchdown dogs since the 2003 trip to Miami. Can the oddsmakers be as wrong about this game as they were about that one?

It’s Week 2 and, against even bigger odds, there’s a Bobby Petrino-coached team among the picks. The scabs from his Ozark mountain road rash have healed, but Petrino’s reputation as a standup guy who respects HR protocol? That will take time (or an 11-win season) to rebuild.

Alas, Week 1 kudos to Goose Gyorko, the lone undefeated panelist thanks to his Clemson pick (and thanks to the Georgia field-goal snapper’s case of the yips). Everyone else should be on threat-level midnight alert this week: The last-place guy loses his spot to Craig James.

WVU 38-35 Holgs out coaches stoops. Easy call here when you tell WVU they can't do it, they do.

    • Maxxajay

Matt Like your post.. I pick WVU by three... Just a reminder West Virginia shutdown third-quarter scoring fourth-quarter scoring something to think about... And we are 1-0.... Undefeated.... One game at a time people.. This reason is not over yet we got 11 games to go....

  • big tom

their dual threat qb will set our def. back a yr.. our offense will sputter, and fail scoring 10 pts at best..
my final okla.38 wvu 10..... sorry sports fans , but wvu is still not ready for prime time, but don't lose the faith, in two yrs. we will be able to compete and you'll just be patient and leave the coaching to the coaching.

  • wvman75

    Mountaineers by 10.

  • Bradford

Marshall is playing Gardner Webb. Really? You really want them on their? You really think that is worth picking?

  • DropZone

By the way, where are all the kool-aid drinkers this week?? All that talk last week about WVU going 9-3 or 8-4. Where are they now??? What lunacy.
I'm still rolling with the 4-8 predicition, but after last week's awesome offensive performance from the offensive genius, I may want to reconsider and go with 3-9. Maryland will romp all over Idiot Holgorsen and the hapless Mountaineers.

    • Magic Mike

      I am going with 1 and 11.

    • Matt

Right here, I'm still solidly behind an 8-4 record, have never questioned it.

    • Mark

Aren't you on the wrong page?

  • ron "from morgantown"

So nobody on this distinguished panel is giving any love to Illinois ? Interesting .

  • DropZone

    Oklahoma 55
    WVU 14

The high flying Holgorsen offense will be a no-show again. The Brainiac Holgorsen will have no clue against OU. The headline will read on Sunday morning: "The Sooner Schooner rolls over WVU leaving Holgorsen looking like roadkill."

  • Bob Smithers

I'm a WVU fan by the way Jason.I want to see Marshall do well too.I'm afraid MU would tear WVU a new one this year, hey, just callin it like it is.

    • WVDean82

Bob, 1997, Arguably Marshall's best team with Chad Pennington and Randy Moss. WVU was only mediocre that year. 'EERS win by 11. If that team couldn't beat them, no way this one can. Never have, never will.

  • Bob Smithers

Probably because Marshall is playing Gardener-Webb,that is pretty well a gimme for the Herd.

  • Jason

Any particular reason Marshall isn't on their list of picks? Just curious. I know a lost of WVU fans don't care so please don't go down that road, but there are some people that do. Just raising the question.

    • ron "from morgantown"

Its a good idea , Marshall should be included on the weekly list .

  • Shawn

Both teams are trying out new QB's so it should stay pretty close. I mean everybody is picking against us and that usually spells disaster for our opponent...i'm just saying.

    • Mark

You just said it, I read it...why the "i'm just saying". Sorry, just a pet peeve not meaning to single you out.

  • HAHA

James and Martinsburg...are you willing to put some money on it? I'll take the bet if you are.

    • Bondo

HAHA If you have been a Mountaineer fan very long you should know that you don't bet for the Mountaineers and you surely don't bet against them. I would not touch this game either way. Just friendly advice.

  • Martinsburg Resident

    Oklahoma - 24
    WVU - 27

    Also, South Carolina - 31 Georgia - 28

    GO MOUNTAINEERS!

  • Wvualum

Pretty much everyone went with Georgia over South Carolina?? I'm the first to jump on the "SC is overrated" band wagon and take the next train to "GA has the coolest mascot," but I just don't see the DAWGS pulling this one off. Here's to hoping they do though!
