Class AAA

RANK TEAM POINTS
1 MARTINSBURG (2-0) 89 (17)
Last week: Defeated Sherando, Va. 27-13
This week: at State College, Pa.
Ranking last week: 1
Notes: Martinsburg held a 27-0 lead early in the fourth quarter of last week’s win over Sherando. The Bulldogs returned quarterback Malique Watkins, who missed week one. Watkins ran for 119 yards and two touchdowns in the win.
2 MORGANTOWN (2-0) 68 (1)
Last week: Defeated Coolidge, D.C. 66-8
This week: at Parkersburg South
Ranking last week: 2
Notes: Coolidge’s bus broke down on the way to Morgantown, delaying the start of its week two matchup with the Mohigans. When things did finally get underway, Morgantown rolled. The Mohigans will be at Parkersburg South this week.
3 CABELL MIDLAND (2-0) 46
Last week: Defeated Winfield, 63-19
This week: vs. Parkersburg
Ranking last week: 3
Notes: Through the first two weeks of the season, Cabell Midland has outscored its opponents 133-19. Yikes.
4 WHEELING PARK (2-0) 24
Last week: Defeated Bridgeport, 17-14
This week: Bye
Ranking last week: 4
Notes: Another solid win for the Patriots, taking down Bridgeport in week two. We’ll find out even more about Wheeling Park in two weeks, when the Patriots meet up with a very good University squad.
5 CAPITAL (1-0) 19
Last week: Defeated Riverside, 68-7
This week: vs. Princeton
Ranking last week: 5
Notes: The Cougars didn’t disappoint in their season opening win over Riverside, 68-7. Interesting matchup this week with 2-0 Princeton, which defeated Class AA Bluefield by three points last week and put up 69 on Shady Spring in week one.

Class AA

RANK TEAM POINTS
1 WAYNE (2-0) 90 (18)
Last week: Defeated Chesapeake, Ohio, 63-7
This week: Bye
Ranking last week: 1
Notes: Wayne put up 411 offensive yards in a 63-7 win over Chesapeake, Ohio last week. Quarterback Grant Ferguson combined for 166 of those yards on the night.
2 BRIDGEPORT (1-1) 50
Last week: Lost to Wheeling Park, 17-14
This week: at North Marion
Ranking last week: 2
Notes: Bridgeport loses in week two by a field goal to Class AAA No. 4 Wheeling Park. But, considering Park’s 23-point domination of Keyser in week one, the Indians stay put at No. 2 in Class AA.
3 FAIRMONT SENIOR (2-0) 42
Last week: Defeated North Marion, 62-14
This week: at Preston
Ranking last week: 5
Notes: The Polar Bears have quickly moved up the power rankings, coming in at No. 3 this week. While games are coming up against Preston and Elkins, the potential is there for a top five showdown against Bridgeport in early October.
4 KEYSER (1-1) 41
Last week: Defeated Berkeley Springs, 59-0
This week: at Fort Hill, MD
Ranking last week: 4
Notes: Keyser stays put at No. 4 after a dominating 59-0 win over Berkeley Springs last week – nice bounce back for the Golden Tornado after a week one loss to Wheeling Park.
5 BLUEFIELD (1-1) 30
Last week: Lost to Princeton, 32-29
This week: Bye
Ranking last week: 3
Notes: The Beavers had their chances in week two against Princeton, but a final run from Princeton’s one yard line as time expired came up just short. Despite the loss to Class AAA Princeton, the Beavers still snag the final spot in the power rankings for this week.
Also receiving votes:
Frankfort 11, Wyoming East 4, Summers County 1, River View 1

Class A

Madonna quarterback Ross Comis tallied 199 rushing yards and four touchdowns on 22 carries in the Blue Don’s week two win over Tusky Catholic. Running back Eliott Nero added 126 yards on the ground and a touchdown. Huge matchup this week for Madonna against No. 2 Wheeling Central.

Last week: Lost to Trimble, Ohio 12-7
This week: at Eastern, Ohio
Ranking last week: 1
Notes: Wahama had its chances in the second half against a very good Trimble, Ohio team – however, the White Falcons couldn’t quite complete the comeback after trailing 12-0 at the half. It was Wahama’s first regular season loss since 2009.
