Son accused of neglecting mother

PARKERSBURG, W.Va. — A Parkersburg man is facing a criminal charge for not taking care of his mother.

Steven Alan Nicolson, 57, of Parkersburg, was arrested Monday for allegedly failing to provide proper care for his mother, Ruth Nicolson, 88.

Parkersburg Police said Ms. Nicolson was malnourished when she was found lying in a bed covered in urine and feces last month.  She was living with Mr. Nicolson on Spring Street in Parkersburg at the time.

Investigators said Ms. Nicolson was recovering at a Parkersburg hospital earlier this week and is in the care of Adult Protective Services.

Her son is out of jail on bond following his arrest of a misdemeanor charge of neglect of an incapacitated adult.  He was arraigned on Monday in Wood County Magistrate Court.
