Bridge and road dedication Thursday for two fallen troopers

WALLBACK, W.Va. — An Interstate 79 bridge and nearby roadway in Roane County will soon be named after two West Virginia State Police Troopers killed in the line of duty.

Governor Earl Ray Tomblin will dedicate the two landmarks Thursday afternoon in honor of fallen West Virginia State Troopers Cpl. Marshall Bailey and Eric Workman.

Both men were shot and killed last August in a traffic stop at the Wallback/Clay exit of I-79.

Joined by the Troopers’ families, members of the State Police and law enforcement community, as well as state and local leaders, Gov. Tomblin and Col. C.R. “Jay” Smithers will posthumously award Cpl. Bailey and Trooper Workman with the State Police Cross.

The ceremony will take place at exit 34 at 2 p.m.
