MARTINSBURG, W.Va. — An Alexandria, Virginia man is in the Eastern Regional Jail after allegedly kidnapping a Martinsburg woman.
State Police allege Kent Crangle, 63, held the woman against her will for 8 days until her escape on Sept. 6.
The criminal complaint alleges Crangle and one of the woman’s daughters put the victim in the bathroom of her home and wouldn’t let her out. They secured the room by using bungee cords. The woman told troopers Crangle and her daughter moved in with her earlier in the summer and that Crangle became verbally abusive after a while.
The victim told police her daughter did give her food and water.
State Troopers said the woman was able to escape and get help. They caught up with Crangle during a short pursuit Thursday night.
Reports indicate both the woman’s daughter and Crangle have been previously treated for mental illness.
Crangle is being held without bail on the kidnapping charge. The woman’s daughter faces similar charges.
