MetroNews Power Rankings: Week 4

The MetroNews high school football power rankings are voted upon weekly by a panel of radio broadcasters and sports writers across West Virginia. The rankings include season record, total points and first-place votes in parenthesis.

Class AAA

Notes: The Bulldogs used a late-game touchdown to stay undefeated last week. A 19-yard touchdown pass from quarterback Malique Watkins to Tory Lee gave the Bulldogs the go-ahead score with just 50 seconds left in the game.

Notes: Through three games, Morgantown has outscored its opponents 172-15. A matchup with top ranked Martinsburg looms in week five.
3 CABELL MIDLAND (3-0) 51
Last week: Defeated Parkersburg, 40-7
This week: at Huntington
Ranking last week: 3
Notes: The Knights had no trouble with Parkersburg in week three. The biggest test for Cabell Midland so far is this week as the Knights are at undefeated Huntington.
4 WHEELING PARK (2-0) 20

This week: vs. University
Ranking last week: 4
Notes: The Patriots have two wins over solid Class AA programs – the first test in Class AAA is this week against an undefeated University team that is looking for a big win itself.
5 CAPITAL (2-0) 16
Last week: Defeated Princeton, 29-28 (OT)
This week: at Parkersburg
Ranking last week: 5
Notes: The Cougars had to come from behind in regulation to force overtime last week against Princeton. Capital then won the game in overtime following a two-point conversion. The Cougars hang on to No. 5 this week, but Huntington is close behind.

Notes: After a bye, the Pioneers will have an intriguing matchup against Ravenswood this week. Ravenswood has scored a combined 102 points in its two wins so far this season.
2 BRIDGEPORT (2-1) 65

This week: at Robert C. Byrd
Ranking last week: 2
Notes: After an efficient week three win over North Marion, the Indians have the annual rivalry matchup with Robert C. Byrd. RCB has bounced back nicely from its opening season loss with two straight wins.
3 FAIRMONT SENIOR (3-0) 54

Notes: Polar Bears’ senior running back Noah Harmon set the tone early against Preston, taking his opening carry 60 yards for a score. Harmon and the Polar Bears will have this week off.
4 BLUEFIELD (1-1) 28

Notes: The Beavers had last week off, but benefit from Keyser’s loss to Fort Hill (MD). Princeton’s near miss at Capital makes Bluefield’s week two loss against the Tigers sting a little less.

This week: at Scott

Notes: Sissonville snags the No. 5 spot in the rankings after getting off to a 3-0 start on the year. The Indians have outscored their opponents 140-22 through three games.

Notes: Madonna sent a message last week, dominating Wheeling Central 42-7. The Blue Dons forced five turnovers and totaled 409 offensive yards to Central’s 180 yards. Madonna’s Ross Comis scored five touchdowns, totaling 239 offensive yards. Elliot Nero added 191 combined offensive yards and a score on the ground as well for Madonna.
2 WAHAMA (2-1) 55
Last week: Defeated Eastern (OH) 54-0
This week: at Belpre (OH)

Notes: The White Falcons took out some anger from their tough loss in week two, thrashing Eastern (OH) 54-0. Wahama running back Kane Roush was dominant, scoring five touchdowns. He finished the game with 284 combined offensive yards (155 yards rushing and another 129 yards receiving). Wyatt Zuspan had four interceptions and a pair of scores as well for Wahama.
3 GREENBRIER WEST (3-0) 44
Last week: Defeated Independence, 55-0
This week: at Buffalo
Ranking last week: 4
Notes: Greenbrier West has impressive numbers defensively through three games – the Cavaliers have given up just 65 combined rushing yards and one touchdown. This week, Greenbrier West looks to avenge its lone regular season loss from last year (Buffalo).
4 ST. MARYS (3-0) 31
Last week: Defeated Parkersburg Catholic, 49-20
This week: vs. Tyler Consolidated
Ranking last week: 5
Notes: St. Marys’ junior Jeremy Pratt led the way last week, rushing for 147 yards and three touchdowns. The Blue Devils jump up to No. 4 this week.
5 CLAY-BATTELLE (3-0) 22
Last week: Defeated Bishop Donahue, 35-6
This week: at Hundred
Ranking last week: Receiving votes
Notes: The Cee Bees dominated Bishop Donahue last week, 35-6, as they debuted their new stadium. That win, combined with Wheeling Central’s 35 point loss to Madonna, and it’s Clay Battelle that edges the Maroon Knights for the final spot in this week’s power rankings.
