CLAY, W.Va. — The Clay County Commission has named an interim county sheriff.
The commission Monday appointed Chief Tax Deputy Reva Schoonover to the position after accepting the resignation of Sheriff Miles “Mike” Slack.
Slack is scheduled to be plead guilty Tuesday to a federal wiretapping charge.
The county commission will next interview a number of residents who have expressed interest in the sheriff’s position on a permanent basis.
Slack, who has been cooperating with federal prosecutors, allegedly installed a hidden keystroke logger on his ex-wife’s computer in late April when the two were still married and it stayed in place for more than two weeks, allowing messages and data to be intercepted.
The computer belonged to Clay County Magistrate Court where she worked.
