MORGANTOWN, W.Va. — A West Virginia University student was killed in a hit-and-run case on Patteson Drive early Sunday morning.
University officials identified the victim as Joseph Dzuris, of Harpers Ferry, through a statement released Sunday night.
“We are deeply saddened by the news of this hit-and-run tragedy that occurred on Patteson Drive early Sunday morning,” the release stated. Officials said Dzuris, a third-year resident assistant who worked night shifts in campus housing, was completing a degree in civil engineering.
“Our heartfelt sympathies go out to Joseph’s family and many friends, and the countless students whose lives he touched so meaningfully,” the statement noted. “Counseling services will immediately be provided through WELLWVU: 304.293.4431. WVU Student Affairs has been in touch with Joseph’s family to offer support and comfort. A bell-ringing service in his honor will be announced at an appropriate time.”
Morgantown Police are looking for information from anyone who may have seen what happened at around 5 a.m. Sunday on Patteson Drive. The vehicle that struck Dzuris was traveling east on Patteson and the drive fled the crash scene. Morgantown police can be reached at 304-284-7522.
